Pre-Cana class
Mike and I recently went to Pre-Cana, and we truly didn’t know what to expect. Pre-Cana is a course or consultation Catholic couples must undergo before they can be married in a Catholic church.

I know you will talk to couples that say they are dreading the course because it’s on multiple nights or an all-day Saturday event. Well, I have to say, it was fun. We really enjoyed it. My suggestion is that you sign up for your date early as dates get booked fast.

For our Pre-Cana, we went to St. Catharine in Glen Rock. At this church, there is a volunteer host couple that runs the day for you. They talk about their life and the challenges they have been faced with. They have a great sense of humor about things, and this kept things less intense. They are really great, and made things interesting. The day was more about our relationship than religion.

We talked about family life, finances, troubles that we will be faced with once we are married, played a “nearly wed game,” and worked through a workbook that helped us learn more things about each other. It really helped me see Mike’s perspective of things –  how important certain things are to him and how he felt about certain topics.

They had a young couple and an older couple come in and talk to us. We got to see different perspectives of the problems that we will be faced with early on and later on in our marriage.

They had a finance advisor talk about future money situations, like retirement funds and children’s college funds.

We meet other couples in the same situation as us, and we talked about our wedding plans.

We actually exchanged numbers with another couple because we got along with them so much – and it’s good to have some friends that are getting married, as well.
Bottom line: Don’t dread going, it really makes you appreciate your fiancé!
